Carbon Removal – Biobased Construction Materials
900 tCO₂e avoided over five years, 4,391 tCO₂e removed over five years
Use of local raw materials, reduced reliance on energy-intensive construction materials
Verified carbon projects sit alongside reduction. They do not make a venue or event carbon neutral or net zero.
What the project does.
This innovative sustainable concrete project is transforming the construction industry by replacing traditional high-emission materials with carbon-negative hempcrete blocks and insulation. The structural and insulation blocks offer an eco-friendly n alternative to conventional materials like cement and rock wool.
Biobased construction materials contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by requiring less energy-intensive manufacturing and actively storing atmospheric CO₂. Vieille Matériaux sources hemp locally from France, minimizing transportation emissions and promoting regional material sourcing.
Over a five-year period, the project is expected to remove 4,391 tonnes of CO₂ and avoid an additional 900 tonnes of CO₂, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of new construction and renovations.
With the European Union’s push for sustainable building practices, this initiative aligns with climate action goals and enhances the environmental performance of the construction sector.
