What the project does.

This project is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric system that supplies renewable energy to the Indian grid. By generating clean power, it replaces electricity that would otherwise come from fossil-fuel sources, helping to lower greenhouse gas emissions. The Indian grid currently relies on a mix of hydro, nuclear, and fossil fuel plants, with fossil fuels providing more than 70% of the power in northern India. The electricity generated by this hydro project is sold directly to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).

Since this project uses renewable hydro energy, it significantly cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional fossil-fuel-based power generation. Every unit of electricity produced by the project reduces the need for fossil-fuel power, contributing to a cleaner energy mix and supporting India’s transition toward sustainable energy sources.
