Revitalizing Land and Curbing Methane Emissions in Oklahoma

What the project does.

The Methane Mitigation and Land Renewal Initiative is a significant environmental project addressing the challenge of abandoned oil and gas wells in Oklahoma. Conducted by Rebellion Energy Solutions, LLC, this initiative focuses on plugging orphan wells that were actively leaking methane, a potent greenhouse gas, while also restoring the surrounding land.

By eliminating methane emissions from six targeted wells, this project helps mitigate climate change, with a projected avoidance of 1,891,423 tCO₂e over the 20-year crediting period. The initiative also rejuvenates affected land through ecological restoration, introducing native plant species and improving habitats to support biodiversity.

Oklahoma, home to thousands of orphaned wells, benefits greatly from such efforts, which underscore the need for scalable solutions to address abandoned energy infrastructure while advancing sustainability goals.
