What the project does.

The Negros Island Solar Power Project aims to generate electricity through sustainable means without causing any negative impact on the environment and includes two major installations: the 32MW La Carlota Solar Power Plant and the 48MW Manapla Solar Power Plant, with a combined capacity of 80MW. These new greenfield standalone solar plants are designed to produce daytime electricity for the grid year-round. La Carlota features about 124,000 solar panels, while Manapla has approximately 179,000 panels, all optimised for maximum energy efficiency.

Together, these plants are expected to generate enough clean energy to replace around 66,039 tons of CO2 emissions annually. This translates to 119,312 MWh of electricity each year, reducing reliance on the Philippine grid of predominantly fossil fuel-based power plants.

The project has a strong commitment to environmental and sustainable development that benefit local communities through the following contributions:

As a renewable source of energy, solar energy reduces the dependence on fossil fuels and has enabled the use of local resources for energy production and decreasing the dependency on imported fossil fuels as an energy source. The clean energy technology used helps improve air quality by reducing specific pollutants like SOx, NOx, and SPM associated with conventional thermal power generation facilities and does not negatively impact the health of local communities. As a result of its zero emissions, the project activity also helps in avoiding significant amounts of GHG emissions.
