What the project does.
The main goal of this project is to produce clean electricity using renewable wind energy, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and helping to combat climate change. By installing 40 wind turbines (each 2 MW) and 57 turbines (each 2.1 MW) in Maharashtra, India, with a total capacity of 199.7 MW, this new Greenfield project aims to generate electricity for the Northern, Eastern, Western, and North-Eastern (NEWNE) grid of India.
The project will supply 372.791 GWh of energy annually to the NEWNE grid and is expected to cut GHG emissions by 364,217 tCO2e each year. Over a 10-year period, this amounts to a reduction of 3,642,170 tCO2e. Without this project, the electricity would come from existing and future fossil fuel power plants, so this initiative significantly contributes to a cleaner energy mix in India.
The project has a strong commitment to environmental and sustainable development that benefit local communities through the following contributions:
As a renewable source of energy, wind reduces the dependence on fossil fuels and conserves natural resources which are on the verge of depletion. Due to its zero emission this clean energy technology reduces specific pollutants like SOx, NOx, and SPM associated with conventional thermal power generation facilities and does not negatively impact the health of local communities.
