Verified carbon projects sit alongside reduction. They do not make a venue or event carbon neutral or net zero.
What the project does.
Agricultural operations have been shaping the landscape and the way of life in the Dutch Provinces of Limburg and North Brabant for several hundred years. This is a mostly rural region with relatively little heavy industry, where agro-swine industry still plays a significant role. Housing the majority of swine farms in Holland, this concentration of livestock has resulted in the inability to dispose of complete manure in fields in this region due to the reached nitrogen absorption limit of the soil.
The project activity will capture methane gas from decomposing manure of livestock farms located in the vicinity of the plant. GHG emissions are also mitigated by replacing fossil fuels with decentral renewable thermal energy and will be used for the operation of irrigation pumps, replacing diesel motors as well as for the hygienization of the co-ferments originating from food wastes containing meat and the industrial drying process.
